NFI North (Northeastern Family Institute) has announced that Chief Operating Officer, Karen Cusano will retire at the end of April 2021, after four decades of exemplary contribution and leadership.
“I consider it an honor and privilege to have been part of this incredible organization for the last 40 years,” Cusano shared. “Being a founding architect of this agency has been the honor of a lifetime.”
When Karen first came to NFI North she brought with her lived experience as a former youth in care. Since that time, Karen has helped to shape the mission and culture of the agency. She has worked with the leadership team to expand the organization’s scope and reach. Today NFI North through its multiple and diverse service array employs more than 350 talented staff who provide support and services for hundreds of people overcoming various life challenges.
Under Karen’s leadership, NFI North has launched countless initiatives and partnerships to complement the organizations’ core mission of inspiring and empowering people to reach their full potential and to live successfully in their own community. These services include community case management, counseling for individuals, groups and families, foster care homes, specialized residential treatment, special education schools, vocational training, supportive employment, and many others.
At a recent Board Meeting, Board Members shared this regarding Karen’s tenure and upcoming retirement “Karen’s passion for the wellbeing of others is part of the very fabric of NFI North. She values every employee” As evidenced by being named Best Place to Work in Maine and NH year over year. “She’s fearless in her pursuit to help people thrive. She’s so bright and capable and most of all, she has such a huge heart.”
The entire organization would like to wish Karen the best in her retirement and thank her for her tremendous service to the organization for four decades. NFI North is solidly positioned to continue this track record of excellent service to the community. The agency is pleased that our impact and awareness is at an all-time high and the team is talented and engaged. Karen’s steady hand and strong leadership has positioned NFI North well for continued success.
Mrs. Cusano has been a longtime resident of Dunbarton, New Hampshire. She has a strong interest in local politics and looks forward to advocating on behalf of those who are underserved, marginalized, or neglected as she moves into this new and exciting phase of life.
